PRESENTATION: EARN 4.0 PDH CREDITS
BIM and 3D Modeling for the CFS Steel Framing Contractor
Speaker:
Skip Austin/ Radius Track

9:00 a.m - 10:00 a.m.
As BIM and 3D Modeling continue to become more apparent and frequently required in construction projects today, this presentation is designed to highlight important pre-bid and performance expectations for Drywall/Framing Sub-Contractors choosing to competitively participate in BIM projects. The presentation uses real project examples to illustrate the critical importance of fully understanding the scope and commitment required of a Drywall/Framing Sub-Contractor when they become a participant in a BIM project. It will look at required sub-contractor involvement from a position of minimal involvement, to full BIM emersion and integration.

Preliminary Engineering and Estimating for CFS with Blast
Speaker:
Nabil Rahman, P.E./ The Steel Network

11:00 a.m - 12:00 Noon
Learn what are the blast design specification and requirements for CFS curtain walls in military and government projects. Information about level of protection, standoff distance, charge weight and acceptance criteria are critical. Learn the difference between static and dynamic analysis and how preliminary engineering can help with better estimation of expected framing member sizes and connection strength.

Update on PAF Products and Provisions
Speaker:
Sam Harris/ Hilti

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
In today's CFS construction, Power Actuated Fasteners (PAF) fasteners are the primary product for fastening CFS framing to concrete and structural steel. The technology behind these systems is ever-changing and improving. This seminar will inform you on the newest design provisions for PAF connections as well as discuss the latest in tool technology and introduce new products and innovations.

Got Steel? Get Pneumatic Pins!
Speaker:
Lisa Beally/ Aerosmith

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Still not using pins for your cold-formed steel jobs? Why not? Your competitors are, do you know what you are missing? Did you know that pins are being used to join as many as four or five layers of steel? Did you know pins can be installed 5-10 times faster than conventional methods? Did you know pins can be used in cold-formed steel as thin as 20 ga 50KSI? How about attaching cold-formed steel to concrete or structural steel? If you answered no to two or more of these questions, this is the seminar for you. Times are changing and so has what you know about pin fastening. See how pneumatic fasteners enable a wide range of design opportunities in cold-formed steel framing and create economic benefits for building owners, developers, architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors.
